Perfomance of Ultra-Wideband OFDM Systems Using Adaptive MPSK Modulation over Nakagami-m Channels

The physical layer proposal of the Multiband OFDM (MB-OFDM) Alliance to the TG3a Working Group of IEEE802.15 for ultra wideband (UWB) systems defines the use of a fixed QPSK modulation scheme in all subcarriers corresponding to 14 subbands of this proposal. Effect of Channel-Quality Indicator Delay on HSDPA Performance

This paper evaluates the effect of the channel estimation inaccuracy on the performance of an HSDPA system. This study provides some results from system level simulations that have been conducted over a very complete dynamic simulator which models an HSDPA system full compliant with specifications. This emulator allows performing multi-user transmission and link adaptation with a limited modulation and coding scheme (MCS) selection based on the channel quality indicator (CQI) modes. Adaptive Modulation and Coding (AMC) in LTE networks is commonly employed to improve system throughput by ensuring more reliable transmissions. Most of existing AMC methods select the modulation and coding scheme (MCS) using pre-computed mappings between MCS indexes and channel quality indicator (CQI) feedbacks that are periodically sent by the receivers. Link Adaptation Thresholds for the IEEE 802.16 Base Station

The IEEE 802.16 technology defines a number of modulation and coding schemes that the base station can use to achieve the best tradeoff between the spectrum efficiency and the resulting application level throughput. However, the 802.16 specification does not define any particular link level adaptation algorithm, neither does it specify the SNR thresholds to switch between modulation and coding schemes. In this paper we consider a link adaptation model and conduct a number of simulation runs to find transition thresholds for ARQ and HARQ retransmission mechanisms. All the simulations are done with the 802.16 extension for the NS-2 simulator.

In this paper we present a coding rate adaptation technique for a Time-Hopping Impulse-Radio Ultra-Wide Band (TH-IR-UWB) system assuming that the Multi-User Interference (MUI) is modeled as an additive interference noise following a Generalized Gaussian Distribution (GGD). The shape parameter induced by the GGD model is in general time-variant since it strongly depends on the essential UWB system parameters and the received signal power of the active users. Link adaptation with combined optimal frame size and rate selection in error-prone 802.11n networks

In error-prone channel with low SNRs, the network throughput may drop significantly if the packet length becomes too large. On the other hand, too much protocol overhead will be introduced if the packet length is too small. In this paper, we study this tradeoff and propose an adaptive frame size algorithm for A-MPDU in 802.11n networks, which can maximize the throughput by selecting the optimized frame length under different channel conditions. When used together with rate selection, the network throughput can be further improved. HSDPA Link Adaptation Improvement Based on Node-B CQI Processing

In this paper HSDPA link adaptation (LA) based on Channel Quality Indicator (CQI) reports is optimised. A pre-processing of the last received CQI reports is done before the execution of the LA algorithm in the Node-B in order to obtain more profitable channel quality estimations and hence improve the LA performance. Different types of processing techniques are presented and assessed, considering from the simplest sample averaging to some more elaborated predictive algorithms. Results demonstrate that a non negligible enhancement in the LA performance can be obtained if medium and high speed users are considered.
